Humphreys has won the Memorial Cup with Kitchener, putting up three points in four games (including one empty-net goal in the final). He was a top-10 scorer in the OHL regular season and playoffs, especially lethal on the powerplay where he led the league. Still without an ELC, he has committed to the University of Minnesota for 2026-27 to give the NCAA a second try. The 7th-round-pick has turned into a legitimate prospect for Colorado with huge scoring upside, but he needs the opportunity to do it against larger opponents to prove its translatable to pro.

Humphreys did indeed return to the OHL rather than re-attempt the NCAA, and is once again thriving and sitting top-20 in league scoring. His SOG per game rate has jumped which is a treat for fantasy owners but his stat line is still assist-heavy as usual. His biggest stat jump this season has been in PIMs, but unfortunately these have been minor penalties which need to be eliminated from his game, not encouraged for “edge”. He is still being used to take faceoffs but his win percentage isn’t a particular strength, he will likely still project as a winger in pro.

Humphreys is among the first cuts from Avs training camp, reassigned to the OHL (indicating that he may be starting the year in Kitchener, not in college). He was used on the powerplay and in the top-six in Colorado’s prospect tournament where he showed flashes of strong playmaking alongside other top prospects.

After his NCAA debut went poorly (1 point in 10 games, multiple scratches), Humphreys jumped ship to Kitchener of the OHL and has looked fantastic ever since. He ended up leading the squad in points per game with 33 in 28, and although his stat line is assist-heavy, it’s not so heavy to limit his outlook at this stage of development. He produced just as well in the playoffs, played both center and wing, and doesn’t take many penalties, good indicators going forward. Unfortunately his season ended with an injury sustained from a high hit. He initially indicated that he would return to the NCAA in 2026, but that has not been updated after seeing so much OHL success so his future is uncertain. Regardless of which league he returns to, the small-ish forward will need several years to becoming a well-rounded threat and fill out.

Humphreys was selected 215th overall by the Colorado Avalanche.

Humphreys ended the season strong and was remarkable during the u18’s. It was clear to see that playing alongside trailblazers in Trevor Connelly and LJ Mooney gave Humphreys the confidence to flash his skill more often. When he wasn’t showing off Humphreys was sticking to his usual guns, intelligent distribution and well sequenced transition play with the occasional eye-popping stretch pass. While Humphreys does bring a lot of talent to the table, it’s not quite projectable to the NHL level. He plays a slow game and a not very physical one at that. If Humphreys can bring the dawg out during his time in Michigan, he has a great chance to land on an NHL team’s middle-six. David Saad
