Projected potential

Bio

Potential middle-six two-way winger. Not strong in peripheral categories but has great hands and good hockey sense.

PNHLe

Projected potential: 182025-26 · Liiga · Pelicans

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

NHL Certainty

30% odds
Odds of becoming a full-time NHL player (10.0 = 100%). Draft guideline is a starting point and should rise as the prospect proves himself.
Upside
4.0

Best-case offensive upside (peak season points potential). Forwards: 8.0 ≈ 80 points. Defense and goalie scales differ.

Scouting Feed

Edmonds did not receive a qualifying offer from the New York Rangers before July 1, 2025 and is an unrestricted free agent. Failing to find a contract with an NHL or AHL team this late in the off-season, Edmonds elected to sign an eight-week contract with the Lahden Pelicans in Liiga. The 24-year-old former third-round pick is well off the fantasy radar and does not need to be rostered in any league.

Edmonds was recently acquired by the New York Rangers organization for forward Ryder Korczak, in a swap of minor leaguers. Both players were struggling to find the scoresheet with their former clubs, and a change of scenery was in order for both players. Edmonds posted only five points in 26 games for the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa Bay’s affiliate. Thus far, in four games played, the right- shooting right wing, wearing number 19 for the Wolf Pack, has posted two goals in four games played.

After torching the OHL to the tune of 113 points and finishing third in the entire league for points, Lucas was called to play for the Syracuse Crunch for 2022-23. Edmund’s first AHL season was a solid campaign on which to build for the future. This included a hot streak to end the year, scoring 12 in the last 22 games and being named the most improved player by the team. Unfortunately for the Swede, he struggled to get into the lineup in his second year. Edmonds has had tremendous difficulty getting into the Crunch’s top six, and, as a result, he’s suffered in every statistical category. The skating and hands are still there, but the mental aspects are still not at the level they need to be. Another year in the AHL can help Edmonds turn it around, but the odds look fleeting. Going into this season, Edmonds is not close to making the NHL roster, and if he does not turn his decline around quickly, he might never see NHL ice.

Edmonds is a safely projectable middle six forward. His skating is mechanically sound and he uses it to weave his way into the right position. Taken in the third round at 86 overall he has the potential to be a 50-60 point two-way player in three to four years.
