In the past three drafts, the Montreal Canadiens have added a ton of beef to their prospective blue line, and Andrew MacNiel is among the biggest of them all. His confidence in the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers grew over time, and his confidence blossomed as he etched a defensive role for himself on the team. He won’t wow you offensively and isn’t known for putting up points, but he’s defensively sound and does all the little things right. MacNiel was a late bloomer in the OHL, and there’s a chance he can do the same at the NHL level, but his skating will need to catch up for him to do so. He’ll be in Kitchener this upcoming season, so we’ll see where his confidence lies and if he can maintain his physical play. –
