Alofa “Noa” Tunoa Ta’amu is a big, rangy, shutdown defenseman. He keeps things simple, and generally makes good decisions in possession and on the breakout. He has a calming presence on the back-end, and his game allows his defense partner (often Blake Fiddler) to be more aggressive with his activations. Ta’amu has a very effective reach, but is also a bit heavy on his skates and can be over-reliant on that reach. One would hope that as the season progresses he’ll get a bit more dynamic on his skates.
