PNHLe

Projected potential: 282024-25 · NCAA · Univ. of Vermont

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

Scouting Feed

The Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL signed Walther for the 2025-26 season. He is an unrestricted free agent in the NHL, as the Nashville Predators did not sign him by August 15, 2025.

That Walther came over from Sweden to join the University of Vermont in the NCAA at all was a great sign for the fantasy investor of any prospect. The performance since has been underwhelming. In 128 games across four years he has scored 23 times and added 33 assists. Walther will be 24 this summer, and currently sits unsigned by Nashville.

Coming over from Sweden, Walther was hoping to have a strong freshman season with the University of Vermont. However, his production left a lot to be desired. He scored three goals and eight points throughout 35 games. On the other hand, Vermont was not a very good college team. They finished with a record of 8-2-25 and finished second last in Hockey East. Their top point producer only finished with 16 points on the season, and he is over three years older than Walther. If he can take a step forward on a hopefully improved Vermont team next year, it would go a long way in reinforcing his middle six potential. He has the length and puck skills to be a contributor at the NHL level.

Walther continues to excel offensively and is clipping along at a point a game pace. He is maintaining his scoring touch while still playing with an edge. What is most encouraging is that Walther is serving as an assistant captain this season and showing signs of maturity and leadership. With the added feather in his cap, Walther is a must-watch in deeper fantasy formats.

Walther was strong in his first full season playing in the SuperElit league. He finished tied for second on the Sodertalje J20 team with 10 goals and showed off his puck skills and quick release. As Walther fills out his frame, he will only add to his puck possession metrics and become an even more focal player on the offense. Walther should be on the sleeper to watch in the Nashville depth charts.

Early this season with the Sodertalje SK J20 squad, Walther looks to already be adding another element to his overall game. In just 14 games, Walther is up to 36 penalty minutes and showing signs of engaging more physically. The skilled winger is still contributing offensively at a modest rate of three goals and five points on the season, but it is encouraging to see Walther trying to take his game to another level. –

Nashville continued a similar trend in their 2019 draft selections taking offensively minded Walther at #179. Walther is a tall average skating winger who demonstrates creative passing and excellent one on one stickhandling in tight. He toyed with the competition in the J18 Elit league scoring 34 points in 21 games and continued a noticeable scoring pace in the J20 SuperElit. There is no doubt that Walther can score and moving forward, he will need to refine his complete game focusing on his defensive awareness and consistency in his compete level. Should Walther round out his game and grow into his frame, the Predators could have themselves a an excellent pick late in the draft.

At 6-4 and 205 lbs, Walther has the size to stick in a team’s bottom-six as a power winger.

The former sixth round pick will likely find himself playing in the AHL if he can ink an entry level contract, or it’s possible he returns to Sweden. The summer will tell which option the young man chooses.
