Projected potential

Bio

An undeniably effective pure power-checking forward with limited offensive upside.

PNHLe

Projected potential: 142025-26 · NCAA · Univ. of Notre Dame

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

Best-case offensive upside (peak season points potential). Forwards: 8.0 ≈ 80 points. Defense and goalie scales differ.

Scouting Feed

Belle is another one of those low-event players with a style served for a bottom-six. His physicality is the bedrock of his game, as he is a buzzsaw in the offensive zone and creates space for his linemates. He loves to push the play and get in on the rush. Where the Maple Leafs have lacked projectable, yet low-skill, attributes in their system, Belle continues the trend of replenishing that mould of player and should compete for a bottom-six spot in the next few seasons if he shows improvements in his puck handling and skating.

Selected at one hundred and thirty-seventh overall, William Belle is now a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

June 2025Players with Belle’s profile don’t grow on trees. The hulking 6-4 winger is a monster on the forecheck, punishing opponents with violent checks. He plays an impactful, high-motor, north-south style of hockey that fits the mold of an effective bottom-six skater. To make it to the next level, Belle needs to improve his skating stride and hone his puck skills, but with good development, he’s a great bet to make the NHL one day. Anni Karvinen
