Gonchar excelled during his first North American season, scoring 15 goals and amassing 51 points in 65 games for the Sudbury Wolves (OHL). He added four assists in a quick four-game playoff experience. The teenager should get another chance to impress with Sudbury this fall. Gonchar remains an exciting player to watch in the Rangers pipeline heading into the back half of the decade.

The Sudbury Wolves signed Gonchar for the 2025-26 season, shortly after drafting him in the first round of the 2025 CHL import draft. After registering 25 points in 50 games in the MHL in 2024-25, look for Gonchar to continue improving his offensive output with Sudbury. Gonchar needs to gain a lot of muscle over the next few years if has NHL aspirations, as he currently weighs around 150 lbs and stands 6 feet tall. With his playmaking ability from the blue line, he should be an exciting player to watch for Sudbury in the upcoming season. Keep him on your watchlist in case the New York Rangers found a player that can eventually help their second power play unit.

Artyom Gonchar, nephew of former NHL great Sergei Gonchar, is among many young men hoping to hear their name called by an NHL team this weekend. Among his peers in the U19 defensemen division of the MHL, Russia’s junior league, Gonchar ranked fourth in offensive production with eight goals and 18 assists for 25 points in 50 games.

He projects to play a similar style as his well-decorated uncle, but likely not to the same degree of fantasy value.
