Projected potential

Bio

A strong skating, defensively reliable defenseman with offensive upside. Proper development could lead to being a top-four defenseman with power play usage.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

Scouting Feed

Fischer had a very impressive D+1 season, improving to 0.73 points per game while maintaining his defensive impact. Fischer effectively uses his body to separate the opposition from the puck and has strong two-way awareness. He’s developing into a top-four defender; he needs to add size to his frame.

Fischer signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the St.Louis Blues.

The St. Louis Blues drafted Fischer in the second round (56th overall) in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Lukas Fischer is a tall, lengthy defender still developing his game. He’s a good skater, especially for his size, and could leverage that to defend well at the next level if properly developed. The defensive results haven’t been this past season, but much of that is due to playing on a rebuilding Sarnia team. Fischer has had more success in the offensive zone, but we project him more as a large, mobile, defensive defenseman at the NHL level.

DRAFTPRO – 2024 7-ROUND CONTRIBUTOR MOCK DRAFT

66. Anaheim Ducks (From SJS) – Lukas Fischer, D, Sarnia Sting (OHL) SUMMARY: Calling Fischer raw is an understatement. Just seven days off from being 2025 eligible, he’s one of the youngest players in the draft and has yet to fill out his 6-foot-4 frame. Despite struggles this season, his best flashes and toolset hint at significant potential. With his reach, mobility, and punishing defense, Fischer could become a solid No. 4 defenseman in the NHL with proper development. – Seth Ditchfield

NHL teams give their final draft rankings a tweak.

The week also serves as a time for NHL scouting staffs to get together and give their draft boards a tweak three plus weeks before the big event. While this is not the last time a name can move up or down the board it is the last time any substantial changes are made.

2024 Eligible Prospects who stood out.

EJ Emery of the Under-18 US National Development Team, Stian Solberg of Vålerenga in Norway, A.J. Spellacy of the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires, Cole Beaudoin of the OHL’s OHL’s Barrie Colts, Lukas Fischer of the Sarnia Sting and Jett Luchanko of the OHL’s Guelph Storm were names that stood out in the physical testing with their athleticism and strength.

MY CHL TPG JOURNEY

Day 2 finally comes, still major excitement shown from the young scout as he heads to the arena for 9am. Prospect’s game day is a day that I will never forget due to the connections made and remembrance of those who previously connected with me. The 1st person who comes along that remembered me is Calgary Flames General Manager Craig Conroy. We truly connected for a quite a bit of time to the point it was nearly 2 hours from the whole trip from the Wednesday and the Thursday in the airport. The first connecting was during Team White’s practice for around 15-20 minutes. Another positive was that Mr. Conroy was kind enough to share me his email and reach out to Craig after the trade deadline. As Team White’s practice was completed, it came time for the 2nd round of interviews. The first two I interviewed on Team White were Lukas Fischer as well as the flashy puck handling Beckett Sennecke. Lukas, son of former Detroit Red Wings Jiri, took tremendous pride in his father’s advice he was given. Beckett’s case, he shows tremendous pride and passion in learning from Avalanche 2023 1st round pick Calum Ritchie while playing on his wing through the season.
