McLane rounded out his NCAA career with five goals and five assists in 33 games. He didn’t find his offense throughout his five-year tenure in the collegiate circuit, and it remains to be seen where he will ply his trade professionally going forward. McLane has yet to become an unrestricted free agent as of August 15, 2025, in the NHL, as the Nashville Predators still own his rights. This is because he has not yet sent notice to the NHL Central Registry that he is no longer a college student. He won’t see meaningful time in the NHL that could help your fantasy squad any time soon.
In his sophomore season at Penn State, McLane did not take much of a jump offensively as he would’ve hoped for in comparison to his freshman year. In 30 games, which was 11 more than the prior season, McLane scored three goals to match his freshman total. His defensive game still proves to be his most vital asset, but unless he can show some production in his junior and/or senior year, it will be unlikely that the Predators will sign him to an ELC.
With their final pick in the 2020 draft, Nashville selected Chase McLane. He is a well-rounded defenceman with strong leadership qualities. In a shortened season, McLane was on pace for his best USHL season yet and playing in all situations. He portrays a steady overall presence on the ice and is well suited as a complement to an offensively-minded partner.
