Bio

A mammoth on the back end, Rombach plays smothering, physical defence with room to add strength.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

Scouting Feed

Rombach is a massive 6-6 blueliner that had many scouts excited entering his draft year. He recorded 17 points in 57 games for the Lincoln Stars (USHL) in the 2024-25 season before being selected early in the second round of the 2025 NHL Draft. The defensive blueliner is committed to the University of Minnesota (NCAA) for the 2025-26 season.

Selected at thirty-fifth overall, Jacob Rombach is now a member of the Nashville Predators .

Jacob Rombach has gone under the radar a bit this season with his quiet yet simplistic approach to the game. Where the 6’6” LHD has lacked in media hype, he’s made up for it with love from NHL scouts. Rombach is a guy who, in a volatile draft, could hear his name called much earlier than expected in June. His feet have really come along, and by the end of the year, he was planting, accelerating, and using just footwork to match even the shiftiest forwards in the USHL. Combine that with a huge reach and an intent to use his 200 lb frame, and he’s become a legitimate top 64 prospect. Rombach will never blow anyone away with offensive numbers, but some NHL scouts suspect that, with some seasoning at an elite defenseman factory, the University of Minnesota, he can carve out a long career for himself. Final Rankings – While his game isn’t the most thrilling, Rombach has certainly got NHL scouts excited. He uses his reach to play a polished defensive game that he will have time to add to throughout a college career with the Gophers.—
