What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

Scouting Feed

Kevan was a nice get for the Devils at the end of round two. He has fantastic speed and pace to his game, to go along with the skill he has. Kevan looked like he produced much more than he did in 2024-25 but he was great at creating chances. His upside could be limited but he is a player teams should take a chance on because if he can put it all together and figure it out he could be a legit top nine NHL forward, and even potentially a very good one.

Selected 63rd overall, Benjamin Kevan is now a member of the New Jersey Devils.

At the USHL level, there’s few more purely dynamic players than Ben Kevan. His quickness and acceleration, combined with high-end creativity and a hair-trigger shot makes Kevan really stand out in game tape.

Final Rankings – Kevan’s an exhilarating player to watch. He’s constantly pushing the pace up ice, racking up shot attempts, and hitting wide-open teammates in stride, all while using his hands, creativity, and vision to the maximum extent, giving him one of the class’s best highlight reels. That said, he plays more of a perimeter game and struggles to gain the interior lane with consistency, calling into question his NHL projectability.—

Nevertheless, he’s a bit of a conundrum. He is highly, highly dynamic and skilled, but his scoring output was so-so, more in line with guys like Mason Moe or Vaclav Nestrasil rather than some of the USHL’s highest scorers like Adam Benak or Ryker Lee. He uses his speed to harass on the forecheck, but in his own end he’s a bit un-engaged.

Overall, the package he brings is enticing, but—as that package hasn’t translated to high-end Junior scoring—it raises questions as to how it will translate to the NHL.
