Day’s first taste of professional hockey probably couldn’t have gone any better. He suited up for three ECHL games with the Fort Wayne Komets after signing his ELC, and went 2-0-0 with only one goal allowed in 140 minutes of work. He then saw five playoff games worth of work, with a 2-2-0 record, 2.17 GAA and .914 save percentage.

The Edmonton Oilers signed Day to a three-year, entry-level contract and assigned him to the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL. Day debuted professionally on April 6, 2025, versus the Cincinnati Cyclones, where he stopped all 24 shots he faced and backstopped the Komets to a 7-0 victory.

The Edmonton Oilers drafted Day in the sixth round (184th overall) in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

For a team like Edmonton where goaltending has been a point of contention seemingly since Grant Fuhr was in net, any potential Edmonton goalie could see opportunity sooner than expected. Given his big body at 6-4, he is physically ready to defend an NHL net, but will need some seasoning in the AHL to show his sterling numbers in a miniscule sample size are indicative of him thriving in a better system than he was behind in Flint of the OHL.

He is worth a speculative stash in deeper leagues where goalies are valuable.
