Curran was traded to the Calgary Flames at the 2026 NHL Trade deadline.

Midway through his 3rd WHL campaign, Curran has committed to UMass of NCAA Division 1 for the 2026-27 season. This comes off the heels of a silver medal with Team Czechia, where he locked down the 2C role for the squad and was able to use his large frame to cause chaos in front of the net and block some important shots. Curran is an extremely strong student outside of hockey, so this move is likely being made to extend his development on the ice while also continuing to build a real education. If this is the case, he may be planning to stay in college for a full 4 years, which would be a long wait for fantasy owners.

Curran was traded from Tri-City to Edmonton prior to the 2025 campaign and has started strong with his new club. His 11 goals and 35 points in 28 games are career-high paces, and playing center full-time means his FOW total has already matched last season. He earned WHL Player of the Week Honors in November after a particularly hot week but he’s been consistent all year long with a maximum pointless drought of just two matches. He is representing Czechia at the WJC, his first time attending the tournament.

Curran has been reassigned to the WHL after being cut from Avs training camp. He entered camp with a chip on his shoulder, clearly on a mission to show off his physical side. He was finishing checks and even dropped the gloves while seeing top-six time in the team’s prospect tournament – no official injury was declared from this however the reassignment announcement indicated he will be rehabbing an injury before playing with his WHL squad.

Curran showed fantasy owners what they needed to see during his 2024-25 campaign. He led his team in points with 74 in 65 games, and diversified his offensive game by pitching in 22 goals, way up from his rookie campaign. He was used as a centerman and a winger, and although he produced well with bigger minutes he struggled defensively at times. His 6-03 frame is also still quite slender, which isn’t unusual at age 18. Expect 2 more year in the WHL.

After participating in Avs training camp, Curran has been reassigned to the Tri-City Americans for a sophomore WHL campaign. 32 points in 40 contests as a rookie was a good North American debut for the Czechian pivot, but he will need to diversify his toolbox and improve upon his goal total (5) before Colorado starts considering an ELC. He’s a long-term prospect – do not draft for now.

Curran was selected 161st overall by the Colorado Avalanche.
