Forsmark had his best season to date in the SHL during the 2024-25 with Timra IK. In 49 regular-season games, he produced 23 points (four goals and 19 assists) and remains unsigned by the Carolina Hurricanes and will play for Timra IK in the SHL for the 2025-26 season.

After turning in one of the more impressive U21 seasons in the SHL, Forsmark is quietly having an excellent season with Timra IK. In 43 games, he has four goals and 18 assists for 22 points, his new career high in the SHL. His ability to move in transition is a big plus, alongside his lateral mobility on the blue line, being able to sidestep attackers. Given Forsmark’s statement that he was close to signing his entry-level contract this fall, it’s not surprising to see him sign a contract with the Hurricanes.

Forsmark has signed a contract extension with Timra IK in the SHL until the end of the 2025-26 season. Forsmark, who’s playing his first full year in the SHL, has six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 47 games. His skating is his biggest strength, but his overall play has stood out to Timra, who have had him on their top pairing for most of the year, which is impressive for a 20-year-old. The Carolina Hurricanes have until June 1, 2026, to sign him to an entry-level contract but can move him to North America if they think he is better suited in the AHL.

Forsmark seems to have found his footing in the SHL, getting his first full season with Timra IK. He seems to be playing on the top pairing most days, including getting some power play and penalty-killing time. His five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 36 games is currently tied for the lead amongst U20 scoring in the SHL, as well as a three-way tie for fourth among U23 scoring alongside Jonathan Lekkerimaki and another Carolina Hurricanes prospect in Joel Nystrom. His skating is his biggest strength, but his playmaking and defensive IQ have taken significant steps this year. Forsmark is still a year or two away from playing in North America, but his play this year has been very impressive.

The Carolina Hurricanes have selected Forsmark in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft.

Forsmark has split his season pretty evenly between Örebro’s J20 team and the SHL squad. Offensively, he is a pass-first player and is a key member of the power play at the J20 level. Outside of his playmaking ability, he has proven reliable with the puck on his stick in transition. Forsmark’s high level of motivation and resilience is noticeable at all times.

A skilled skater who can play on the penalty kill unit and is reliable defensively. He is not known to drive the offense, but is capable of starting a breakout and distributes the puck well. If Forsmark can take his offensive game to another level, he will become a rosterable player in dynasty leagues. Forsmark may be one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Hurricanes’ system. Currently, he’s worth adding to your watch list and monitoring his third full season in the SHL. Do not hesitate to stash him later in the season if he takes another positive step forward with his overall game, particularly his offense. Once he makes the move to North America, he could be NHL-ready if he can adapt to the smaller ice surface, which would provide immediate fantasy value.

At the professional level, Forsmark has struggled to produce offense so far, but he is engaged in offensive play through zone entries and his positioning in the offensive zone. However, He has occasionally seemed overwhelmed on the defensive end by the quicker and stronger competition at the men’s level. He needs to work on his defensive positioning and speed to adapt to a step up in competition. One upside to Forsmark’s defensive play in the SHL is his physicality. While not overly physical, he uses his body wisely and effectively, boxing out opposing forwards when defending the net-front area. Forsmark is a highly touted prospect for the upcoming draft, who many consider a top-40 pick. If his offensive skills begin to translate in the SHL and he continues his reliable transitional play, he could emerge as a potential first-round talent.
