Beckham Edwards is a tools-over-production bet, a center the Detroit Red Wings took 143rd overall out of the Sarnia Sting. He models his game after Nick Suzuki and leans on his skating and hockey sense, and he plays a complete, versatile game that Detroit’s staff valued through the middle rounds. The scoring is the sticking point. He posted 45 points in 64 games this past season, nearly identical to the 45 he put up as an Ontario Hockey League Second All-Rookie Team member the year before, so the expected offensive step forward did not arrive. A Little Caesars product with a Red Wings connection, he heads to the University of Notre Dame this fall, where a jump in competition and a fresh developmental setting could unlock the consistency his game has lacked. For fantasy the ceiling is real if the skill translates, but the flat back-to-back seasons are why his certainty sits well below that upside. He is a dynasty stash on tools and pedigree rather than results, and his Notre Dame freshman production, specifically whether the goals and points finally climb, is the tell before any add.
