Kevin He is one of the more dynamic stories in the Winnipeg system. The first Chinese-born player to sign an NHL contract, He was traded mid-year from Niagara to OHL contender Flint and has done nothing but score since – the combination of finishing ability, speed, and tenacity that defined his junior career took another step forward with better linemates around him. Thirty-seven goals and 74 points in 57 appearances marks him as a legitimate middle-six forward candidate. A fourth-round value with second-round production – worth a deeper dynasty roster spot.

Kevin He broke out offensively in 2024-25 as captain of the Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League. He had 75 points (36 goals and 39 assists) in 62 regular-season games. He needs to become more consistent offensively and prove his 2024-25 offensive breakout was not just a one-off and remain disciplined as his career progresses. He plays the style of game and has the explosiveness and speed that could see him become a middle-six forward at the NHL level and see usage on both the power play and penalty kill, which can make him a viable fantasy option. He is worth rostering in deep dynasty leagues, as he is trending offensively in the right direction. Another year in the Ontario Hockey League for the 19-year-old before potentially getting a chance at American Hockey League action with the Manitoba Moose to end the 2025-26 season is not out of the question.

The Ontario Hockey League suspended He for three games on January 29 following a high hit against the Erie Otters on January 24.

The Winnipeg Jets signed Kevin He to an entry-level deal, making him the first China-born player to sign an NHL contract. He is playing his third season with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League and was named captain on October 22. In 31 games with the IceDogs in 2024-25, he has 47 points (24 goals and 23 assists).

After the first 18 games of the 2024-25 season, he is tied for fifth in OHL scoring points with Jacob Battaglia and Adrian Misaljevic, having scored 16 goals and 12 assists.

He was named one of the CHL Players of the Week for September 30- October 6.

He attended the Winnipeg Jets 2024 Development Camp on July 3-7, 2024, and will participate in the 2024 Young Stars Classic in Penticton, B.C, September 13-16, 2024.

Kevin He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the fourth round, 109th overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

June 2024Kevin He is very endearing due to his excellent work rate and consistent play on a team that is quite bad. He is a player who maximizes his potential due to his relentless play, good skating, and his ability to score. I didn’t see much of a playmaker from He; however, this aspect of his game might show up more in his D+1 and D+2 seasons once the players around him get better and he realizes he doesn’t need to do everything himself. Similar to a player like Sam O’Reilly, He might be a player who takes significant strides in his final two seasons of junior hockey. I think he has the potential to be a bottom-six winger. The hope is that he rounds out his game a bit more and adds more weight to be a vital energy player with a depth-scoring upside. At the very least, he should be a good AHL player. Jordan Harris
