Potentiel projeté

Bio

Coe possesses the size, skating, and skill that make coaches salivate. There is still some refining to be done but he could provide solid middle-six minutes.

Coe entered 2024–25 on a one-year, two-way contract with the San Jose Barracuda, recording nine points in 30 games, along with 16 penalty minutes. His offensive production remained modest, and he did not secure a call-up to the Sharks. At 6-4, Coe offers size, reach, and a steady physical presence, but has yet to translate his junior scoring touch to the pro level. Following the season, San Jose declined to issue a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. He will now look for a fresh opportunity to establish himself as a reliable depth forward at the AHL or NHL level in 2025–26.

The Sharks extended Coe to a one-year, two-way contract for 2024-25. Struggling to translate his junior offense into the AHL, the 6-foot-4 forward may find his way onto the Sharks fourth line, though it is more likely that he remains with the Barracuda following the acquisition of Barclay Goodrow, and the re-signing of Luke Kunin. Coe projects as a long-term role player for the Sharks, but his ceiling seems limited.

Arguably no Sharks prospect has seen their stock rise more than Brandon Coe over the past couple of seasons. In a prospect pool light on skill, Coe has true top-six potential. This year he finished fifth in OHL scoring with 101 points in 62 games and led the North Bay Battalion to an OHL semifinal appearance. He will make the jump to the pro ranks next season and with his size, skill, and speed combo the road is paved for him to make his NHL debut sooner than later.

At 6-4 and 190 pounds, Coe is the largest player the Sharks drafted in 2020. Despite his size, Coe skates with fluidity and uses his edges like you would expect from a smaller skill player. So why did a player with Coe’s size and skill fall to 98th overall? Likely because he spent the majority of the season dragging the OHL’s worst team, the North Bay Battalion, along behind him. Coe combines his heavy shot with his physicality to make playing against him a challenge in every situation. His defensive ability isn’t his greatest strength, but he will hope to improve on that as he will undoubtedly be squaring off against the OHL’s best lines in the 2020-21 season.

Coe was selected 98th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Playing on the North Bay Battalion wasn’t easy this year but it was clear on most nights that Brandon Coe was their best player. He possesses the size and skating that teams desire and could go higher than public boards expect because of it. When you find a player with this frame who plays hockey instead of bullying opponents on the ice, he becomes a valuable commodity. His shot is better than his 25 goals would let on, with a heavy and accurate shot. He was able to produce at about a point-per-game player despite being on the worst team in the OHL and having very little help around him with only three other players surpassing 30 points. There is some fine-tuning that will need to be done on his game when it comes to his play without the puck but he shows promise as a raw, moldable player who a team could jump on fairly early on day two of the draft.
