Playing for the Bakersfield Condors, Grubbe has put in consecutive 14 point seasons while playing in over 60 games in each season. For a player that doesn’t provide much offense, he also had the worst plus minus on the Condors in 2024-25 at minus 19. Low offensive output and a team worst plus minus differential, even at age 22, is not the kind of performance that gets you promoted to the NHL. Grubbe is a long way off of fantasy relevance at this rate, and not worth a spot on even the deepest dynasty fantasy manager watch lists.

Grubbe’s rights were traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a third round pick. He then signed his three-year ELC with Edmonton.

The young Red Deer captain was a low-risk, low-reward selection by the Rangers in the third-round of the 2021 NHL draft. Although relatively limited in terms of his fantasy upside, Grubbe’s reliable defensive acumen rounds out the organizations depth on the right-side. If he’s able to develop his offensive game over his remaining years of junior, he could develop into a very savvy pick for rookie general manager, Chris Drury. Until he’s proven that to a greater extent, he should be considered a relatively certain, future top-6 defenseman, but not much more.
