Projected potential

Bio

A productive two-way forward who plays a heavy game. His reliability and versatility project him as a middle forward.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

Scouting Feed

Eriksen skated 15 games for Farjestad BK (SHL), but the teenager did not appear on the stat sheet in the contests. He appeared in 25 games for the club’s U2O teams, scoring 19 goals and recording 44 points in 25 games, He totaled 15 points in seven games in the postseason, including five goals. He was loaned to Mora IK (HockeyAllsvenSkan), tallying one point in five regular season games, while scoring one goal in 2 qualification games for the squad. Eriksen helped Norway get promoted into the 2027 World Juniors after a 10-point performance in five games during the WJC U20 Division I tournament. He also skated in six games for his country at the 2026 World Championship, but did not find the scoresheet. A full SHL season seems to be the next step for this Rangers prospect.

In the fourth round of the 2025 NHL draft, the New York Rangers selected Mikkel Eriksen, who is tailor-made for Mike Sullivan. Eriksen’s hockey IQ is something to marvel at. He possesses excellent awareness and elusiveness on both ends of the ice, but his game elevates in the offensive zone. Eriksen’s play style is very comparable to JG Pageau, whom Rangers fans know very well. Although, most importantly to Rangers fans, Eriksen has a shoot-first mentality. In the 2024-25 season with Färjestad BK’s U20 Nationell team, Eriksen led the team with 22 goals in 40 games. The contributing factor was that he registered 4.1 shots per game. The 17-year-old Norwegian is turning 18 on September 13th and is slated to start this upcoming 2025-26 season with Färjestad BK of the SHL. Keep an eye on Mikkel Eriksen, Rangers fans.

Selected 111th overall, Mikkel Eriksen is now a member of the New York Rangers.
