Projected potential

Bio

A bigger, skilled centre with two-way upside, Moore all-around engagement will have to improve to find success.

PNHLe

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.

NHL Certainty
3.0
30% odds
Odds of becoming a full-time NHL player (10.0 = 100%). Draft guideline is a starting point and should rise as the prospect proves himself.
Upside
8.0

Best-case offensive upside (peak season points potential). Forwards: 8.0 ≈ 80 points. Defense and goalie scales differ.

Scouting Feed

Moore is a good swing for the Bruins. Another prospect highly regarded heading into his draft year who fell down the rankings as the year went on. He had a late surge at the end of the season, but it was not enough to get him back into the first round. The Bruins are getting a player with great shooting and distributing instincts, and one with size down the middle. Moore is part of the case of larger players who sometimes take a while to fill into their frame. That case is no different for him. He has the toolkit of a strong offensive middle-six forward with potential to be a great bottom-six NHLer when all is said and done.

Selected at fifty-first overall, William Moore is now a member of the Boston Bruins .

With some fresh linemates, Moore played some of his best hockey of the year next to Cullen Potter and Will Horcoff at the U18’s. While he didn’t look like he was dominating (or necessarily the main driver on his line) his abilities to absorb contact and make plays, both along the wall and at the netfront, looked improved. While his hands and playmaking ability remain strengths, I’m still not sold on his skating, his strength, or his athleticism. More importantly, I don’t know that he’s done enough to alleviate the concerns about his work ethic, his defensive abilities, or his physical play. With a mindset-shift and a greater focus on defence and detail, Moore could make many scouts look very foolish.

Final Rankings – While a weaker year in the program didn’t help Will Moore’s case, he finished strong at the U18s, leading Team USA in scoring. With improved consistency and detail, the big and skilled center could make our ranking look foolish.—
