Nashville acquired Edstrom from the Sharks in a package that gave the Sharks star goalie Yaroslav Askarov. This is the second time that Edstrom has been traded before he has even played an NHL game. Teams are coveting him, and insisting that he be part of key trades. He offers the size and two-way acumen that teams need in their middle-six. With Frolunda, Edstrom had 19 points in 39 SHL games. At the WJC he had six points in seven contests (four goals). He’ll be a shutdown guy with a little bit of offensive upside not unlike Mikael Backlund. –

Edstrom plans to return to the SHL for 2024-25, making the earliest he can crack the Sharks roster the 2025-26 season. An organization still rebuilding, San Jose can afford patience while Edstrom continues his development in Sweden.

Edstrom has been traded to the San Jose Sharks in a large deal involving Tomas Hertl.

Entering his first world juniors, Edstrom hopes to continue what has been a successful season to date with his SHL club. Sitting at 10 points through 25 games played in his first full year with Frolunda’s Tier 1 squad, the “floor” for Edstrom’s fully developed skillset and ability to play at the highest level is promising. The Golden Knights’ 2023 first rounder helps to compliment a strong group of Center prospects in the Vegas organization who project to play NHL minutes at the position. Still not an elite skater, the 2024 World Junior stage provides a brief yet meaningful opportunity for Edstrom to prove himself as an impact player when pitted against the best of his international peers.

Edstrom has been selected 32nd overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2023 NHL Draft.
