Unger Sörum has taken a significant step forward in his second AHL season after a solid but modest rookie campaign – five goals and 21 points in 60 games, largely second-half production. Eleven goals and 48 points in 56 games this year is a genuine leap, and 37 assists tells you something real about how his playmaking has developed at the pro level. He profiles as a puck distributor rather than a shooter, and the development of a more varied shot will only add another dimension to his game. He added ten points in seven World Junior games for Sweden in January. At twenty, with a second AHL season that looks more like confirmation than outlier, Unger-Sorum is building the foundation of a real NHL career – a complementary scorer whose deployment and role next season will tell you a great deal about how Carolina sees his ceiling.

An intelligent defensive forward with upside as a slot-driven playmaker in a middle-six role.

Scouting Feed
Unger Sorum’s rookie campaign with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL was a solid introduction to North American pro hockey. Billed as a two-way, defensively minded forward, he still managed to make an impact on the scoresheet and special teams in an offensive manner. He managed five goals and 16 assists in 60 games, seeing eight of those 21 points come on the powerplay- all from December onward.
Unger-Sorum is more of a puck distributor than a shooter, but it will help his game to develop more of a shot to varying the offense he drives. He shot the puck just over once a game and also only garnered 12 penalty minutes all season.
It’s too early to pencil Unger-Sorum into an NHL role at present, and he will return to the Wolves to continue to hone his game. He is worth keeping an eye on as a complimentary scorer, and his deployment and role over the next season will give us more insight onto how the Carolina organization sees him. Time will tell, and it’s too early to say for sure.
While it was a disappointing World Juniors for Team Sweden, it was still an excellent performance for Felix Unger Sorum, who was moved back to the wing after spending the first few months of his AHL career as a center. With one goal and nine assists for ten points in seven games, Unger Sorum was one of the more dominant forwards on the ice. His playmaking and creativity were on full display, as he could manipulate the pace of play with the puck on his stick and consistently find an outlet. While on the top line with Sweden, Unger Sorum was the primary play driver, continuously able to break down defenses. After rejoining the Chicago Wolves at the AHL level, he has continued that success, with four points in his last four games.
