After having appeared in 12 games with the AHL Wolf Pack thus far this season, Morrow was able to earn a recent call-up to the Rangers, after a couple of very brief call-ups earlier this season. With the recent injury to Adam Fox, Morrow should have the chance to appear in at least the next several games with New York. Rangers coach Mike Sullivan was recently quoted as saying that he is looking for decisive, hesitation-free play from Morrow. Though he has not looked poor in his limited NHL action thus far with the Rangers this season, it is evident that Morrow, the Summer trade acquisition, is still trying to find his game and his confidence at the NHL level. Known for his offensive skillset, the next stretch of games presents an excellent opportunity for Morrow to showcase his game, and in Fox’s absence, he may even get some regular power play time, as well.

The New York Rangers acquired Morrow, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman K’Andre Miller. The 22-year-old Morrow played in 14 regular-season and five postseason games with the Carolina Hurricanes during the 2024-25 season. He spent the majority of last season in the American Hockey League with the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, where he produced 39 points (13 goals and 26 assists) in 52 games, leading all Wolves defensemen in both categories.

A move to the Rangers organization will allow Morrow to become a full-time NHL player, while he will not need to become their top defenseman, as they have Adam Fox. Morrow has the chance to become a solid second-pairing defenseman who can contribute on the second power play unit. Morrow should make the opening night 2025 roster with the Rangers. He could start as a third-pairing defenseman, but he will be given every opportunity to become a mainstay in the Rangers’ lineup. Morrow should be rostered in all dynasty leagues and should be considered a late-round pick in yearly fantasy leagues, or at worst, be on your watch list as an early-season add should he seize his new opportunity in the Big Apple.

In just his first season of professional hockey, Morrow has been named an AHL All-Star! It has been a season to remember for Morrow, who is playing heavy minutes on the top pair of a young, but very solid, Chicago Wolves team that is relying on younger players, and Morrow has certainly become a top player. In 35 games this season, Morrow has nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points. The biggest development so far for Morrow has to be his defensive game, as Morrow has grown into a strong penalty killer while also posting good results at even strength. If he continues this development throughout the rest of the year, it’s hard to imagine Morrow not being on the Carolina Hurricanes roster come Opening Day.

Morrow has officially signed his entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. Morrow, who ends his college career with 28 goals and 66 assists for 94 points in 109 games, was instrumental in UMass’s success over the past 3 years. His defensive game grew immensely over the past year, getting more physical and more active with his stick, in addition to his already impressive ability in transition, as well as being a power-play quarterback.
