Lamoureux has the kind of defensive toolkit that gives him a clear path to NHL utility, even if the offensive upside remains limited for fantasy managers. His size and reach are obvious assets, allowing him to close space, disrupt entries, and take away passing lanes in a way that is difficult to replicate. The puck play is still a work in progress, but there have been encouraging signs this season as he has looked more comfortable handling pressure and moving play forward. For fantasy purposes, the appeal is likely to come much more from hits, blocks, and role security than from point production, though any continued growth with the puck would make him a more interesting long-term asset in deeper multi-category leagues.

While Lamoureux did not make it back to the NHL after missing time with injury, he did get more playing time in the AHL, including three playoff games where he went pointless. Offence is not exactly his calling, as he is more likely to top out as a bottom-four, defensive defenceman who can transition the puck well and will not let you down in his zone. That said, offence is not expected to be part of his role, outside of special situations where he might see time on the second power-play unit. Players of his stature do take more time to develop, and he is 6-7 at only 21 years old, so with time, we will likely see him contributing to multi-cat leagues with hits, blocks, and occasional PIMs.
Playing well for Utah, unfortunate news came out right before a game against Edmonton, as Lamoureux will miss 4-6 weeks with an upper-body injury. He had one goal and two assists in 15 games with Utah. Lamoureux had been seeing a solid amount of action during his rookie campaign, averaging 16:07 of ice time, along with 18 hits and 11 blocked shots.
Fully recovered from his shoulder surgery, Lamoureux had a very strong preseason with Utah. Starting the year in Tucson, Lamoureux was leading all Roadrunner defenseman in scoring with two goals and three points in four games. With both Sean Durzi and John Marino out long-term due to injuries, Lamoureux received his recall and made his first NHL appearance with Utah. In his second NHL game, he scored his first NHL goal with a bomb from the point.
After returning from the 2024 WJC, Lamoureux missed a month recovering from mononucleosis. Unfortunately, after returning from mono, he injured his shoulder, the opposite one Lamoureux injured a year ago. Another six-month recovery time, he missed important development time, Lamoureux never saw a playoff game for Drummondville, including their time in the Memorial Cup. Despite this, he still had an excellent 2023-24. Before his injury, Lamoureux was one of the best defensemen in the QMJHL, putting up nine goals and 33 points in 39 games. While Canada disappointed at the 2024 WJC, Lamoureux was one of their bright spots, playing well in a shutdown role. He averaged 24 minutes a night, led the team in plus-minus and was named one the club’s top three players. Lamoureux should be recovered for Utah training camp and could push for a roster spot but more likely spends the year in Tucson.
