Savoie is no longer a prospect. He played all 82 games for Edmonton this season, recording 18 goals and 37 points while finishing tied for sixth among NHL rookies in scoring. The arc of his year was striking: nine goals and 18 points through 58 games before the Olympic break, then nine goals and 19 points in 24 games after it, including a hat trick against Vancouver in the season finale. By April, he had earned time on Connor McDavid’s wing, which is about as clear a vote of confidence as a young forward can get. The right-shot, 5-10 frame does not scream top-six power forward, but the hands, pace, and offensive IQ are legitimate NHL tools. He was acquired from Buffalo for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio, a trade that looked lopsided at the time and now looks like a heist. Fantasy managers should roster him in all formats. A 45-to-55 point season in 2026-27 is reasonable if the McDavid or Draisaitl deployment holds, and the goal-scoring touch (18 goals in a rookie year with limited power play time) suggests more is coming.

Since Savoie’s last update, he was traded from Buffalo to the Oilers in a deal that sent the Sabres Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio. The trade puzzled fans when it was made, but after a 53-point year for McLeod, the trade seems more justified. As for Savoie, the Oilers got a high-end prospect who could become Connor McDavid’s or Leon Draisaitl’s linemate in just a few years. In his first year of professional hockey, Savoie lit the AHL up, scoring 19 goals and 54 points in 66 games. He was second on the Bakersfield Condors in scoring and even earned a four-game stint in the NHL, where he scored his first NHL point. It looks like Savoie will be competing for a roster spot with the Oilers next year, and with such a high offensive skillset and ceiling, he could be a dark horse for the Calder trophy next year if he gets stapled to a line with McDavid or Draisaitl. Savoie is an exciting prospect for the Oilers and could become an outstanding complementary piece in Edmonton’s top six soon.
Savoie missed the beginning of the 2023-2024 hockey season due to an upper-body injury sustained during the Buffalo Sabres’ September prospects tournament. After returning to full health, he began his season in Rochester and scored two goals as well as five points in six games. His hot start earned him a call-up to the NHL. He made his Buffalo Sabres debut on November 10, 2023. After the match, the Sabres reassigned Savoie to the WHL. With the newly relocated Wenatchee Wild franchise, he tallied eleven goals and 24 points in eleven games before being traded to the Moose Jaw Warriors. With Moose Jaw, he has scored four goals and 13 points in six games, a torrid pace. Despite appearing at the 2024 World Juniors for Team Canada, his tournament was cut short during the round robin stage due to a lower-body injury. He scored one assist in four games during the event.
With 38 goals and 95 points in 62 games during the 2022-2023 WHL season, Savoie took a moderate step forward from his previous campaign with the Winnipeg Ice. His draft-plus-one season came with huge expectations, and while the speedy scoring center started his season slowly, his level of production rose as the year progressed. He finished seventh in WHL scoring and was second among Winnipeg players behind only Zach Benson. His game has also become more well-rounded. He was often one of his squad’s most important defensive forwards in 2022-2023. So far in this year’s WHL playoffs, he has 11 goals and 27 points in 14 games, which ranks him third among playoff scorers. Buffalo Sabres fans should be excited for his sophomore NHL training camp in September.
Savoie has been selected by the Buffalo Sabres with the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
