Scouting Feed

Andrew Epps - DobberProspectsJuly 2026

Seminoff delivered the breakout his first two pro seasons only hinted at, leading the Texas offense with 24 goals and 50 points in 72 games with a plus-13, then adding four points in five playoff games. The 22-year-old was the engine of the AHL club all season, and Dallas moved before free agency to keep him, signing him to a two-year, two-way extension on June 25 that runs through 2027-28. The context makes the deal interesting: he is waiver-eligible for the first time this fall, and a 50-point AHL scorer on an $875,000 NHL cap hit is exactly the kind of contract that draws claims. The 2022 sixth-rounder’s game grew in the details this year, better wall play, more consistent finishing off the rush, and a shooting volume that held up across the full schedule. His fantasy relevance is still a step away, tied to whether the scoring carries into NHL preseason games and forces Dallas’s hand. The next test is September, where a strong camp puts him in the recall conversation and a waiver claim becomes a real possibility either way.

Ioan Gheordanescu - DobberProspectsJuly 2025

Offensive success has not accompanied Seminoff during his transition from the WHL to the AHL. Case in point, he ended up playing a few games in the ECHL in 2024-25 after a full season in the AHL in 2024-25 as a rookie. This diversion from his trajectory could either be a confidence issue or a struggle to adjust to the physical demands of professional hockey. This upcoming season should give the Dallas Stars organization a better view of where Seminoff’s development is heading. For fantasy hockey managers there’s not much reason to make a spot for Seminoff on your watch list if he cannot stick and crack the half a point per game mark at the AHL level in 2025-26.

Taylor Newby - DobberProspectsJanuary 2024

Seminoff has been playing for the Texas Stars after signing an entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars in March. Since then, he has been trying to find his game against the new level of talent. His last two seasons in the WHL, Seminoff was well over a point per game player, but that has not been the case thus far in the AHL. Seminoff finally potted his first professional goal last month. However, he is young and there is a lot of room to grow. He has an NHL level release with soft hands, if he can find a way to put it together at another level.

Nick Richard - DobberProspectsJuly 2022

Seminoff has been selected in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars.

DobberProspectsDecember 2021

Seminoff is having a huge year for Kamloops, sitting behind only Matthew Savoie in points per game among draft-eligible WHL players. One of the older players in the class, he is now in his third WHL season and he has shown notable growth each year.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
