Stenberg left Sweden to join the the Springfield Thunderbids of the AHL. He was able to get into 38 games, and picked up five goals and 12 assists for 17 points.

His Individual Points Percentage (IPP) of 80% or better in all situations shows he was effective at being involved in the offense at even-strength and on special teams. He fired just under a puck and a half at the net per game, and as he finds his confidence his shot will grow to be an important tool for him. Evidence of his increase comfort shooting lies in the fact he fired shots on net at a higher rate as the season drew to a close- 14 in his last 7.

Stenberg will likely feature in training camp, but fantasy managers should expect him to start the year in Springfield and gain more experience, as he just turned 20 at the end of May. He may be just a few short years out from taking regular shifts in St Louis’ middle-six.

When facing competition within his age group, Stenberg has been impressive this season. In this year’s World Junior Championship, he amassed an impressive nine points in seven games. Unfortunately, his performance has not been the same when playing for Frolunda in the SHL. In 31 games this season, he has only recorded six points. It is worth mentioning that the SHL is typically not very forgiving for young players, as evidenced by his average ice time of 11:38 with his club. At just 18 years old, Stenberg is still young, but St.Louis might consider bringing him back to North America next year to provide him with more ice time and better opportunities for development.

Stenberg demonstrated his ability to produce points against players of his own age at the World Junior Summer Showcase. In the tournament, he played four games and had one goal and three assists. Stenberg’s stats last year in the SHL, three points in 23 games, show that he needs more development before being NHL-ready.
