Morin’s first professional season was a significant setback. After setting a personal best of 72 points in the QMJHL during his draft year, he never matched that output again, and the jump to pro hockey in 2025-26 sent him to the ECHL, which caused his stock to crater. The Athletic’s prospect pool rankings dropped him from fifth to outside the top 15 in one year. Calgary traded him to New Jersey on June 23, 2026, giving him a fresh start in a new system. The offensive tools (good shot, ability to support the rush) are real, but the defensive reliability at the pro level was not there. At 21, the timeline is not dead, but the development curve has flattened. Fantasy managers should monitor the NJD move but do not need to roster him. He needs a strong AHL season with Utica to rebuild his stock.

As an Assistant Captain, Morin produced at a point-per-game pace for the Moncton Wildcats, helping lead the team to a QMJHL championship and a berth in the Memorial Cup final, where they ultimately fell to the eventual champions, the London Knights. Morin will be joining the Wranglers in the AHL next season and likely fits into the team’s bottom four. He’s currently projecting as a bottom pair defender in the NHL in three to four years if continues improving his skating.

Morin was selected 48th overall by the Flames.

Morin’s season for the Moncton Wildcats, on paper, was impressive – he finished the regular season tied for first on his team in points, and third among all QMJHL defenders, with 72 points in 67 games played. 21 of those points were goals, and his plus-minus of +29 is higher than both runner-ups on his team, combined.

These totals are also why scouting is so important. First and foremost, Morin is by far the most utilized player on his team, and might even be the most-utilized in the QMJHL, playing well above 27 minutes a night on a regular basis. He plays first fiddle on both special team units, and hops on the ice almost every second shift at 5 on 5. Although this is certainly warranted based on his ability to transition pucks out of his zone, the defender struggles very hard in two areas. First, his footwork is a major concern, especially defensively. He has a lot of trouble keeping up with changes of possession and back-and-forth plays, mainly due to a recurring habit of keeping his feet planted. This is also an issue on the offensive side, where a vast majority of his shots come from a standstill, with no lateral lane adjustment to make sure the shot hits the net.
