Scouting Feed

Hayden Soboleski - DobberProspectsJune 2026

Ivan has been traded to Boston in exchange for Fabian Lysell.

Hayden Soboleski - DobberProspectsJune 2026

Ivan’s shooting percentage did normalize in the second half of 2025-26 while maintaining a shot volume of over 2 SOG/game, leaving him with a total of 11 goal and 26 points in 66 games. This pace is slightly more acceptable knowing that he played on a primarily forechecking, grinding, and cycling line, and he’s playing at nearly 10 pounds heavier than earlier in his pro career. This translated well to the Calder Cup playoffs, where he put up 15 points in 17 games, going plus-14 in that time (still with a normal shooting volume and percentage). The Avalanche are stacked down the middle so he’s unlikely to earn another try-out at center (barring injury), but if he can play a reliable checking style he could be considered as a depth winger with a strong training camp.

Hayden Soboleski - DobberProspectsDecember 2025

After an extended NHL tryout in 2024-25, Ivan begun the 2025-26 season in the AHL. His 7 points in 24 games is his lowest scoring pace in three campaigns so far in the AHL but his SOG volume has been one of his highest yet, so if his shooting percentage can normalize he is due for a bump. He’s had one call-up to the NHL so far in a 4th line capacity similar to last year, but increased NHL veteran depth and some serviceable rookies with higher upside have pushed him out for the time being. Expect more cups of coffee, but don’t expect much ice time when it happens.

Hayden Soboleski - DobberProspectsJune 2025

After starting in a fourth-line 10-minute-TOI role, Ivan was elevated to eventually hit 18 minutes TOI and even appear on PP2 as injuries piled up in 2024-25. His performance dipped over time as he experienced the relentless pace of an NHL campaign and as the team loaded up for the playoffs he was returned to the AHL, but his audition justified more opportunities going forward. His eight points in those 40 NHL appearances is a realistic pace expectation for the bottom-six forward so he is not fantasy-worthy for points alone, but his SOG and FOW paces were borderline streamable in deep leagues and he had runs where his Hits and Blocks were also respectable. A classic high-floor, low-ceiling depth piece, expect his name to reappear in the coming seasons.

Hayden Soboleski - DobberProspectsOctober 2024

Ivan’s hasn’t slowed down from his strong first impression with the organization. He was among the hardest working forwards in Avs training camp and exhibition play, and his ability to contribute in any situation has earned him an NHL roster spot to start the season. As expected, his fantasy contributions so far have been minor (1 hit, 1 assist, 1 SOG through 2 games), but his play so far makes him a likely candidate to see games later in the season once the team is healthier. He has even been rewarded with some powerplay time, although his total aTOI is still below 10 minutes a night. He does not require waivers and he has already been sent down/recalled for cap reasons, which may work against the promising depth piece once there are fewer roster spots available.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
