Bio

High-end offensive talent with great size who can beat opponents with his hands, vision, or shooting ability. Needs to clean up his skating stride and add some pace to his game but has potential as an impactful offensive weapon in the NHL.

Scouting Feed

Markus Kalmar. - DobberProspectsSeptember 2026

Geekie plays a wrecking-ball power game that should be a great addition to the Lightning in April and May. His style is rather straightforward, work hard and play hard. His speed has improved over the years to a point where it really shouldn’t be an issue in the NHL. He backchecks hard and runs over players in his way. There really isn’t much deception or extra layers to his attacks. He uses his strength and leverage to force the middle and either shoot or create chaos. The lack of extra layers in his playmaking does mean his offensive upside is stunted, and he’s likely to be more of a finishing power forward on a second or third line. His shot is good enough to one day be on the first power-play unit, but when that day comes is harder to predict with how stacked the Lightning still are. Geekie will likely be a supporting player for the current core, chipping in closer to 50 points, but in due time he will be one of the few remaining. When that time comes, his personal role and production should increase favourably as the Lightning’s window shuts.

Markus R - DobberProspectsSeptember 2025

Geekie was used in a checking role by the Lightning, hounding puck carriers and causing chaos near the net. He has been an effective producer at every level he has played, including with the Syracuse Crunch earlier this season when given a larger role. Geekie averaged just over twelve minutes per game, a number that should increase as he earns a bigger role in the lineup. He remains a bit of a longer-term project, but once he breaks into the top six, his blend of size, physicality, and offensive ability should make him a player capable of contributing both hits and points.

Markus Kalmar - DobberProspectsJanuary 2025

Geekie has impressed enough out of camp that he has remained with the Lightning for half the season now. Currently in a bottom-six role with limited power play opportunities. As he continues to develop opportunities to break into the top-six and earn power play time should come. His worth could still be low due to his limited deployment so if you want to play the long game, he could be a good player to target.

Markus Roach - DobberProspectsJuly 2024

As Tampa Bay’s clear best prospect, Geekie is expected to be able to challenge in camp for a roster spot. Odds are he will end up in the AHL to start the year. Geekie’s performance in the AHL will dictate how quickly he’ll make it onto the Lightning’s roster. If he can hit the ground running in his first AHL campaign, he should be first called up in the event of open spots in the big club. If Geekie needs time to adjust to the professional game, he’ll likely remain with the Syracuse Crunch for the whole season. Whatever the outcome for this year, Geekie should have an easier time making the Lightning’s roster next year.

Keith Duggan - DobberProspectsJune 2024

On day two of the 2024 NHL Draft, Geekie was part of a massive trade between Utah HC and Tampa Bay. Geekie along with JJ Moser, a 2025 second-round pick and the 199th pick in the 2024 Draft were dealt to Tampa for defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. Heading to a team with a weak prospect pool, Geekie instantly becomes on of Tampa Bay’s top young players.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
