Scouting Feed

Chris Babos - DobberProspectsJuly 2026

Klimovich signed a one-year, $850K contract with Philadelphia for the 2026-27 season.

DobberProspectsJune 2025

Klimovich played overtime hero once again one Friday night (June 13) in Game One of the 2025 AHL Calder Cup Finals for the Abbotsford Canucks against the Charlotte Checkers. Giving the Canucks a 1-0 series lead, Game Two takes place on June 15 in Charlotte. (Note: The YouTube video is an overtime winner in the 2025 Western Conference Final against the Texas Stars.)

Mark Henry - DobberProspects

Klimovich had a solid bounce-back season in the American Hockey League in 2024-25. He produced 38 points (25 goals and 13 assists) in 65 regular-season games with Abbotsford. If Klimovich can continue to exhibit the scoring touch he showed in 2024-25, become a consistent offensive threat, and maintain his physical presence, there could be an opportunity to make his NHL debut during the 2025-26 season. He is under contract for one season before becoming a restricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Nick Orr - DobberProspectsDecember 2024

After a forgettable 2023-24 campaign riddled with injuries, Klimovich has come out with a strong start to 2024-25. In 19 games, he leads Abbotsford with nine goals and is playing the game with more pace. He is stronger on pucks and getting himself in positions to showcase his patented release. Klimovich is also on Abbotsford’s top power play unit and has cashed in three goals with the man advantage. Klimovich has had consistency issues, so maintaining his current level of play is key for the middle of the season.

Cedrick Blais-Turcotte - DobberProspectsApril 2024

After a promising season last year in the AHL, Klimovich returned this season with Abbotsford, but things took a turn for the worse. He was frequently sidelined due to injuries and spent much of the season as a healthy scratch, managing to participate in only 24 games, mostly on the fourth line. To label this as a major disappointment following his decent performance last season would be an understatement. The issue with Klimovich’s season wasn’t necessarily his impact on the ice. Looking at his goal event statistics, he was still present for seven of his team’s goals compared to only two for the opponent, boasting a 77% goals-for ratio. However, these stats also indicate that not much happened for either team when he was on the ice. Given the depth of the Canucks’ forward group, it’s now clear that Klimovich has a long journey ahead if he hopes to make a significant impact in the NHL.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
