Scouting Feed

DobberProspectsJune 2025

The Tampa Bay Lightning signed Meneghin to a three-year, entry-level contract on May 19, 2025. After being acquired by the Medicine Hat Tigers from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in October 2024, Menghin had a 23-9-2 record with a .901 SV% and 2.56 GAA in 35 regular-season games during the 2024-25 season with the Tigers.

Mark Henry - DobberProspects

The 2025 WHL Playoffs were when Meneghin stepped up and was named the 2025 WHL Playoff MVP while helping the Tigers win the Ed Chynoweth Cup as the 2025 WHL Champion and reach their first Memorial Cup since 2007. In 16 playoff games, he had a 14-1 record with a .906 SV% and 2.35 GAA, including three shutouts. This, incredibly, was after his father unexpectedly passed away on the final day of the WHL regular season. He returned to the team just days later for the start of the playoffs. Meneghin will be an organizational depth goalie for the Tampa Bay Lightning and will continue to develop in the minors starting in 2025-26.

Markus Roach - DobberProspectsDecember 2024

Meneghin is an average-sized goalie standing at 6-4 who burst onto the WHL from nowhere. He was passed on during the WHL draft and signed as the third-string backup for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Almost immediately, Meneghin had gotten the starting gig, showcasing good skill and poise. A mechanically sound goalie; there are no clear faults. His composure makes Meneghin stand out, and when he is in the zone, he can shut down games. The issue is that this composure can come and go, making him inconsistent in the net. Meneghin is a long-term project with some skills that could make him a successful NHL goalie; however, he needs to refine them and work on improving his entire game. If he makes the NHL, it is likely as a backup.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
