October KHL Report: Top Draft Eligibles

Pustovoi and Privalov are in almost identical spots, though Pustovoi has a goal and assist to his name. Both are in limited ice time and have needed some time to adjust to KHL pace. He does not need the puck to be effective, as his sense and spatial awareness allow Pustovoi to find open ice. He also plays an especially rugged, mature game for a player in his situation. Pustovoi is not phased by the size and speed difference around him, rather embracing what he needs to do to win the puck back.

Pustovoi can fly up and down the ice and, at least at the MHL level, is the most dominant player on the ice. Pustovoi is the primary play driver for his line and features elite puck handling and shooting ability. Barring injury or enormous jumps from other prospects, it is hard to imagine a world where Pustovoi slips outside the top five.

Michael’s Monthly: September

Pustovoy has been making quite the noise in the KHL thanks to his high IQ and compete level. Despite being pointless in 9 games, he is doing all the little things very well. If he can find a way to start scoring, he might be an underrated candidate for the top 10. He reminds of Andrew Ladd.

Top 20 NHL Draft Rankings

8 – Andrei Pustovoy Another player that can find the back of the net with ease. Although I do not think he has the best shot in the draft, he is the best pure goal scorer, he is able to score from anywhere, can snipe from the point on a powerplay, and can find loose pucks and easy tap ins. A concern I have that is the reasoning for 8th is his overall game, he is somewhat one dimensional right now, need to see more playmaking, quicker skating and edgework, as well as more on the defensive side.

2027 NHL Draft Rankings: DuPont, Neuenschwander, and Privalov Lead Round 1

19 – Andrei Pustovoy (6’3″ | 201lbs | RW/C | Loko Yaroslavl | Russia) With one of the most dangerous releases in the draft class, Andrei Pustovoy is coming off an impressive 32-goal, 62-point season in the MHL. He is the definition of a pure sniper, lethal off the one-timer and capable of scoring from anywhere on the ice. While the rest of his game requires some refinement, the tools are there, and his 6’3” stature gives him a solid baseline. Though listed as both a centre and a winger, his skill set and size make a transition to the wing probable once he moves over to North America. If he can round out his play beyond his elite finishing, expect to hear his name called early on draft night.
