Bio

Bottom-six center who uses physicality to create offense. Strong playmaker with soft hands but a relatively weak shot. Can play both center and wing—added value in multi-cat leagues that value hits.

Scouting Feed

Chris Babos  - DobberProspectsMarch 2026

Melovsky signed a three-year entry level contract with the Devils on March 2.

Puneet Sharma - DobberProspectsJuly 2025

Melovský’s road to the NHL has not followed the usual script. The Czech forward left Ostrava for the QMJHL’s Baie-Comeau Drakkar and didn’t fully break out until his overage season, where he put up 26 goals and 57 assists in 57 games. At Devils development camp, his active stick and responsible two-way play stood out. Now signed to an AHL deal with Utica, Melovský is not expected to be a top-line guy, but he fits well as a reliable bottom-six center who can chip in offensively. He’s a longer-term piece, but his maturity, versatility, and consistency make him one worth keeping tabs on.

JP Gambatese - DobberProspectsOctober 2024

The Devils’ final draft selection in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft was perhaps their most underrated, as Melovsky has the tools to become a legitimate NHLer. The playmaking center relies on physicality to get things done, harnessing his already-NHL-level strength to fend opponents off and create space for his teammates. His shot needs some work, as does his skating, but his physical edge, size, and strength with the puck will be his bread and butter if he ever jumps into a bottom-line center role in the big leagues.

What is PNHLe?

PNHLe is an offensive stat that is used to project a player’s point potential at the NHL level and is meant to standardize a variety of leagues so that prospects can be compared from one league with another.

PNHLe attempts to equalize all leagues, age and positions so that the offensive potential of a prospect can easily be compared with others, while also projecting future NHL point potential in the prime years of a player.

The problem with NHLe

The premise of the NHLe stat is certainly a great idea. If a player jumps directly from one league to the NHL there should be some precedent set by historical values that would indicate how many points that player should project to having in a full NHL season. However, it always bothered me that NHLe never took into account that younger players in the same league would always have a massive disadvantage compared to those that have more experience and are physically more mature in the same league. NHLe only looks at the present to predict how many points in one league are equated at the NHL level.
